Peripheral neuropathy is a progressive disease of the nervous system. This disease causes numbness, tingling, burning and sharp pain in hands, feet, and toes. It can also cause restless leg syndrome, chronic lower back pain, and sciatica.

The peripheral nerve exits the spinal cord and reaches right down to your extremities – hands, legs, feet, and toes. If the damage of the small nerves that go to the hands, feet, and toes occurs, this can cause numbness, tingling, burning, and sharp pain. Many patients with peripheral neuropathy are diabetic, or are taking statin drugs (treating cholesterol), or are chemotherapy patients.
